Please excuse me, hp TVC again! This is Olivier Gondry's third ad for hp, featuring the fashion model, Petra Nemcová who is from Czech. She is a suvivor in 04' tsunami disaster and her fiancé was killed in the incident. This spot was on air two months ago in USA. Obviously, this hp concept and execution has a lot of mileage to go further.
Who did this commercial for promoting a new property development in Hong Kong? I vote this is the most impressive TV commercial showing recently. The visuals are refreshing and the song pampers my ears. We are always brain washed by client that the essential elements in a property ad are:
1. show good transportation network 2. show luxurious club house facilities 3. show grand sea view with firework 4. show good school network 5. show happy family with a kid, boy is perferable
This commerical cannot answer the above checklist. Maybe, there is nothing to sell at the moment, so the client is brave enough to run an imagery ad. I hope that is not the reason for the brith of this commerical. I google searched the information about Lohas Park, showing that Cheung Kong property is the one in charge of the first phase developement. Are they the client of this TV commerical? Emmm....I wonder. Which advertising agency did this good piece of work? Who is the film director?
Lohas in Chinese translation is 樂活族. Click here to see its meaning in Wikipedia, here is the excerpt about this term:
LOHAS = Lifestyles Of Health And Sustainability, describes an estimated $209 billion U.S. marketplace for goods and services focused on health, the environment, social justice, personal development and sustainable living. The consumers attracted to this market have been collectively referred to as Cultural Creatives and represent a sizable group in this country. According to the Natural Marketing Institute (NMI), the only source for LOHAS consumer insight and data, approximately 16% percent of the adults in the U.S., or 35 million people, are currently considered LOHAS Consumers.
Here is Marc Jacobs new shoes collection 2008. They cost you from £270 (a plain pair) to £330 (a more elaborate design decorated with metal swirls and Swarovski crystals). Quoted from Daily News UK (Sept 21, 2007) "The surreal shoes whose heels will keep you on your toes." "It looks like something Salvador Dali would dream up. Or some sort of reject from the footwear factory. This is, in fact, the world's first back-to-front shoe, courtesy of designer Marc Jacobs. " What do you think? When you know there is a design company, United Nude, in UK has released their signature design , Eamz since 2004, you may have a different comment on Marc Jacobs' new shoes design. Just take a glance, they look similar. At first, I think it's a kind of copycat....but I think twice....(below is a pair of Eamz shoes) The design concepts are totally different. Marc's design rebels against the norm, it's about relocating the heels. The Eamz shoe concept is inspired by a funiture design classic (a Charles and Ray Eames design). I tried the Eamz shoes before and walked for a few steps, amazingly they are comfortable. By looking at the photos, I can tell Eamz shoes are more comfortable. The heel of Eamz shoe likes an arch (see there is space between the heel and the ground), it acts as a spring for the comfortability of walking. Though I am not a professional in shoes design, I have a personal consultant to ask, haha! But I still buy some uncomfortable shoes, so stupid I am.
I wonder what will be the fortune of Marc's design? And you can still buy Eamz shoes today as it's a classic design. The company change the materials every season to refresh the trendy look. It's good to know more about United Nude if you are interested in design. United Nude is a design company co-founded by a Dutch designer, Rem D. Koolhaas and an English shoemaker, Galahad JD Clark in 2002. Rem D Koohlas has the same name as his uncle, a famous world class architect and Galahad Clark is a seventh generation shoemaker (of the English Clark shoemakers). The company was launched at London Spring/Summer Fashion Week 2003 with the introduction of the innovative "Mobius" shoe. The "Mobius" shoe was inspired by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe's Barcelona Chair.
The company specailizes in shoes design for some years and will launch hand bags and accessories soon. You can see a strong concept behind their works. Though being designers, their way of thinking is very systematic, you can tell from their website show how they design the shoes.

Date: Friday, September 7, 2007 1:00 AM haha...okok....I can understand, I experienced that before too. Hey, so how's your job search? any news?
Look into Wikipedia about Feist, you can see many brands featuring her songs in their advertisements, to name a few, Lacoste perfume in France, Silentnight beds in UK, HSBC Direct in UK, Verizon Wireless, LG, HBO's promo and ipod nano in USA, and ebay in Australia. SHE IS SUCH A JINGLE QUEEN!
I accidentially saw this news from Yahoo, the new ipod nano TVC jingle is very popular. People are egar to know what's the name of the song as well as the singer. This news was posted on Sept 18, 07, which said : Queries on "ipod nano commercial song," "ipod nano song," and "ipod nano commercial" all jumped over 350% over this past weekend. Seems everyone wants to know who possesses the enchanting voice behind the raspy "1, 2, 3, 4."
The song is sung by Feist, she is an indie singer. I searched her song in YouTube, the view rate is over 1.5 millions upto this moment. A great jinlge contributes a lot to the success of an advertising/ marketing campaign. Go to her official website, knowing that she will have a concert tour to the West Coast of USA on November. Tickets pre-sale began at 3.00pm on Sept 18. The concert in San Francisco will be held on Nov 9 at Nob Hill Masonic Center.
The date when Feist news was posted by Yahoo is the same as the tickets pre-sale day. What a good marketing strategy! Does Apple also involve in this plot?
Feist - 1 2 3 4, MTV
Feist's live performance in David Letterman Show. See this video, then you will know where does she come from and how to pronounce her name properly.
It's good to see Apple CEO, Steve Jobs' presentation. Do you notice any difference of him in two years? Steve Jobs doesn't change his look, outfit and his way of presentation in these two years, but why he keeps changing the ipod models.

希望雲南咖啡能站得住腳, 有一天到外國的Starbucks, 神氣的向服務員說: 「I would like to have a tall cup of Yunnan Coffee, please!」 感覺不錯吧!
